The Stage 1 kit is what we would consider the bare minimum kit to run nitrous safely. We start with a base NX Coyote kit, then add a nitrous pressure gauge, purge kit (used to clear air from nitrous line for more consistent nitrous delivery), and an RPM window switch that prevents the nitrous from spraying at too low of an RPM, which could damage the engine.
The Stage 2 kit includes everything the Stage 1 kit includes, but also adds an automatic bottle heater. A bottle heater is used to maintain nitrous pressure at the optimum pressure (1050 psi). This is very important for both maximum performance, as well as safety. As low nitrous pressure is what causes those big nitrous backfire explosions that you’ve probably seen at the track. Maintaining bottle pressure is hugely important.
The Stage 3 kit starts as the Stage 2 kit, but replaces the RPM Window Switch with the Maximizer 5, which is a fully programmable digital nitrous controller. A controller allows us to do all sorts of cool things with the nitrous. We can run a larger shot, like 125 shot, but ramp the nitrous in on the hit. So, for example, we can start spraying 25 hp out of the hole, and then ramp to the full 125 shot by 4k RPM. It’s a great way to both increase safety, as well as improve traction for racing. There’s a big difference, when using nitrous, when you ramp in an extra 125 hp, versus hammering the motor instantly with 125 hp. This is what the controller does.
